Aliens 5th Disc - DVD
Writer: James Cameron, David Giler, Walter HillDirector: James Cameron Producer: Gale Anne Hurd Studio: Sharpline Arts Review: This will be quick, because it's a simple review to finish off the Alien Legacy box set. Those people who purchased the Alien Legacy DVD box set before the end of September receive the option to mail away for a fifth disc which contains this documentary, The Alien Legacy. This documentary is produced by Sharpline Arts, the same people responsible for the excellent content on The Thing and The Last Starfighter DVDs, and the Alien Legacy really shows what they're capable of. The documentary is a feature film (albeit a documentary) which tells the amazing story of how the original Alien film came to the silver screen twenty years ago. The producers have gone back and dug up all sorts of archival footage and combined that with some great new interviews produced specifically for this documentary. The result is a story unlike any other told, and a must-see for any fan of Alien or of the filmmaking process in general. This documentary really covers the A-Z of making a horror film in 1979, and is really the standard by which all other making-of documentaries should be measured. If you haven't sent in your claim card from the box set yet, what are you waiting for? You won't regret it when this disc is in your hand. The disc itself features absolutely nothing special. No chapter stops, no amazing features. Hell, it doesn't even come in a case (it's in a simple slip-case). It's a no-frills disc for a high-frills box set, but the content more than makes up for the lack of flash. Ken Pierce Dvdken@home.com Contributing Editor, www.dvdfuture.com |
