Review:
You know, I gotta say... This movie was a much more pleasurable experience than I had anticipated. For those who might have forgotten, this was that movie about Zach, the pretty boy from I Know What You Did Last Summer and/or Wing Commander, who bets his asshole friend that he can use his massive popularity to turn the elusive and unliked Laney Boggs into the Prom Queen. Anybody who saw the trailer immediately noticed what seems like this movie's fatal flaw (aside from it's incredibly uncreative and predictable plot) -- despite her attire and glasses (usually a sure-fire sign of unpopularity and unattractiveness) it's obvious that this girl is stunningly beautiful.

As it turns out, this really isn't that much of a flaw, since Laney's transformation from geek to chic (or somesuch) is no more easily forseen than her eventual acceptance and deep/meaningful releationship with Zach. The fact is, if you've ever heard of the movie, you should more or less know what to expect, so you don't let that stuff bother you. And once you're past the staleness and predictability of the plot as a whole, you are ready to enjoy the high points of the movie -- specifically Matthew Lillard. He plays the "Real World" cast member that drives the deceptively sensitive pretty boy and his vacuous coke-slut of a girlfriend apart.

Now for Buena Vista's presentation: It's pretty standard Disney fare -- appalling. The picture is good and the sound is okay, but the disc lacks the advertised 5.1 audio track. I don't know if BV intends to remedy this situation, but it is probably a concern for some.

Now, I'm not going to lie to you, this movie isn't a must-buy. It's not even a must-see... However, it really didn't repulse me to anywhere near the degree I had feared. Maybe I am just in a good mood or something, but I would even go so far as to cautiously recommend this movie as an option for rental. all speed. Thank you.
